Signs of concussion and the temporary loss of consciousness
Most commonly, concussions are referred to as symptomatic or asymptomatic (meaning that symptoms are or are not present, respectively). A temporary loss of consciousness is clear signs of concussion in a toddler, but there are other symptoms of this type of head injury. The acceleration can come from a direct blow to the head or face, or from other body trauma that causes the head to shake. Most people with concussions fully recover with appropriate treatment.
Some organizations recommend that your child stay away from sports activities that could produce a similar head injury, for the rest of the season. While the medical term “minor traumatic brain injury” can sound serious, the actual extent of damage to the brain is usually minimal and does not usually cause any long-term problems or complications.
